JOB DESCRIPTION
CHOIR CONDUCTOR (part-time)
KEY ROLE:
To lead, develop, and conduct the volunteer church choir to create a cohesive and engaging experience during worship services and special events.
REPORTS TO: Pastor and Music Director (who provides direction)
KEY QUALIFICATIONS: (Education, Experience, and Skills) -
A strong background and experience in music, including vocal training and conducting is essential. Formal education in music, such as a degree in choral conducting or a related field, is preferred. Excellent musical ability, conducting skills, vocal coaching abilities, communication skills, and the ability to work well with others.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducting the choir in weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals, Sunday morning warm-up, Sunday morning worship, and special services to ensure choir members understand and perform music accurately.
- Providing vocal instruction, coaching, and feedback to choir members or soloists to improve skills on aspects like tempo, volume, tone, and pitch to achieve a high level of musical performance.
- Selecting appropriate music for anthems and special music for worship services and performances that suits the choir's abilities and interests and engages the congregation (in coordination with Music Director/Pastor).
- Practicing and being prepared for all rehearsals, worship services, and special events.
- Working with other church and music leaders to create a cohesive worship experience.
- Arranging for outside vocal soloists as needed or special music during choir absences (in coordination with Music Director).
- Attending/contributing to church staff meetings, unless otherwise directed by Pastor.
- Arranging for substitute when unavailable for regular or special services of the church.
OTHER:
This is a part-time position of approximately 4-5/hrs/week (approximately 9-10 months of the year as choir is off during a portion of the summer months).
